Washington (WA) Program: The ninth state in the U.S. to enact model, industry supported, paint stewardship legislation. The program is responsible for environmentally responsible end-of-life management for leftover architectural paint and offers opportunities to relieve local and state governments of the economic burden of post-consumer paint management. PaintCare launched a paint stewardship program in Washington in April 2021.

Colorado (CO) Program: The eighth state in the U.S. to enact model, industry supported, paint stewardship legislation. The program is responsible for environmentally responsible end-of-life management for leftover architectural paint and offers opportunities to relieve local and state governments of the economic burden of post-consumer paint management. PaintCare launched a paint stewardship program in Colorado in July 2015.

Minnesota (MN) Program: The fifth state in the U.S. to enact model, industry supported, paint stewardship legislation. The program is responsible for environmentally responsible end-of-life management for leftover architectural paint and offers opportunities to relieve local and state governments of the economic burden of post-consumer paint management. PaintCare launched a paint stewardship program in Minnesota in November 2014.

Oregon (OR) Program: The first state in the U.S. with a pilot program which instituted a model, industry supported, paint stewardship program. The program is responsible for environmentally responsible end-of-life management for leftover architectural paint and offers opportunities to relieve local and state governments of the economic burden of post-consumer paint management. PaintCare implemented the pilot paint stewardship program in Oregon in July 2010. Legislation passed in 2013 made the Oregon pilot program into a permanent one.

Connecticut (CT) Program: The third state in the U.S. to enact model, industry supported, paint stewardship legislation. The program is responsible for environmentally responsible end-of-life management for leftover architectural paint and offers opportunities to relieve local and state governments of the economic burden of post-consumer paint management. PaintCare launched a paint stewardship program in Connecticut in July 2013.

Maine (ME) Program: The seventh state in the U.S. to enact model, industry supported, paint stewardship legislation. The program is responsible for environmentally responsible end-of-life management for leftover architectural paint and offers opportunities to relieve local and state governments of the economic burden of post-consumer paint management. PaintCare launched a paint stewardship program in Maine in October 2015.

Vermont (VT) Program: The sixth state in the U.S. to enact model, industry supported, paint stewardship legislation. The program is responsible for environmentally responsible end-of-life management for leftover architectural paint and offers opportunities to relieve local and state governments of the economic burden of post-consumer paint management. PaintCare launched a paint stewardship program in Vermont in May 2014.

Rhode Island (RI) Program: The fourth state in the U.S. to enact model, industry supported, paint stewardship legislation. The program is responsible for environmentally responsible end-of-life management for leftover architectural paint and offers opportunities to relieve local and state governments of the economic burden of post-consumer paint management. PaintCare launched a paint stewardship program in Rhode Island in June 2014.

District of Columbia (DC) Program: The law creating ACA's PaintCare program in the District of Columbia was enacted on March 11, 2015, following U.S. Congressional review. The District of Columbia Paint Stewardship Act Of 2014 (Act Number A20-0501), signed by then-Mayor Vincent Grey on Dec. 8, 2014, brought paint stewardship to the District of Columbia in November 2016.

Illinois (IL) Program: The eleventh state in the U.S. to enact model, industry supported, paint stewardship legislation. The program is responsible for environmentally responsible end-of-life management for leftover architectural paint and offers opportunities to relieve local and state governments of the economic burden of post-consumer paint management. The program is anticipated to go into effect in 2026.

Maryland (MD) Program: The twelth state in the U.S. to enact model, industry supported, paint stewardship legislation. The program is responsible for environmentally responsible end-of-life management for leftover architectural paint and offers opportunities to relieve local and state governments of the economic burden of post-consumer paint management. The program is anticipated to go into effect in 2026.
