$1.1MWyoming hunger initiative serves a wide audience across the state, recognizing that hunger affects children, families, seniors, and veterans alike. We believe hunger in wyoming is a solvable problem. Our work focuses on preventing food insecurity by increasing awareness, supporting local anti-hunger organizations, and fostering collaboration through innovative programs. By elevating and connecting local solutions, we aim to build nourished kids, healthy families, and thriving communities. Wyoming hunger initiative supports communities and anti-hunger organizations through infrastructure grants for equipment and projects, along with additional funding for emergency, summer, and holiday meal programs. These efforts help strengthen the long-term viability of local partners and promote sustainable approaches to reducing food insecurity across wyoming.food from the farm + ranch leverages wyoming-grown agricultural products to address food insecurity while meeting two challenges; providing farmers and ranchers a meaningful way to support neighbors in need, and bridging the price gap between what the food bank system can pay for external protein sources and the cost of processing high-quality, locally produced protein.through partnerships with the university of wyoming extension, the cent$ible nutrition program, and the master gardener program, we also distributed seeds and provided infrastructure grants to organizations interested in growing additional produce for donation through the grow a little extra campaign.wyoming hunger initiative provides beef sticks through beef for backpacks for weekend food bag programs to ensure children have access to high-quality protein on weekends. These protein resources are offered at no cost to partner organizations that distribute them to families in their communities.additionally, food from the field, in collaboration with the wyoming game & fish department, wyoming department of agriculture, and processors statewide, enables hunters to donate harvested game. Processors prepare the meat for distribution through local organizations, ensuring it reaches individuals and families facing food insecurity.wyoming hunger initiative also addressed significant school meal debt that had accrued. After a period during which school meals were available at no cost, we worked with dedicated donors to ensure students returned to school without outstanding balances. Now that we are beyond the pandemic, we continue to support school districts in managing and reducing meal debt and are refining long-term strategies to assist families moving forward.
