Programs

Aloha in action has been intensively involved in the relief and recovery effort following the maui fires that occured on august 8, 2023. The maui community is still reeling from the fire damage and the cascading effects of the fire (including homelessness, loss c of employment, health impacts, mental and physical injuries to victims, loss of revenue and the deleterious effects on the island's economy). We have frankly been overwhelmed by the vastness of the needs that have occurred and continue to effect our citizens every day since. A large portion of the residents are still unsettled, moving often from one place to another, chasing housing opportunities, employment offers and schooling placement for their children. Our relief assistance must cover all communities on the island, and delivery of relief supplies expands as the population moves about. Additionally, the process of locating, transporting and accounting for the goods and services used in this effort has been incredibly difficult. The turnover of volunteers has also complicated our work. Because of the intensity of the relief effort, our work has focused on providing an uninterrupted flow of goods to the needy. We are a small but dedicated organization who relies on the support of the community and the tireless efforts of wonderful volunteers who are committed.
