2024 spring season - bam's 2024 spring season featured world-class presentations, showcasing artists and companies from countries such as brazil, cameroon, japan, mali, poland, south korea, and the united states. Highlights included: the bark of millions, taylor mac's rock-opera, featuring 55 original songs by composer matt ray; the look of love, mark morris dance group's newest work and tribute to the music of the late burt bacharach; meu coco, a concert performance by brazilian virtuoso caetano veloso celebrating his first album in nine years; long play weekend, a series of music presentations across the bam campus that included performances by steve reich featuring bang on a can all-stars and friends, jeff mills, patti smith and soundwalk collective, and others; ironweed: an evening of art and humanity, a staged reading of a new play in development based on william kennedy's novel ironweed, featuring mark ruffalo and jessica hecht; the 47th annual danceafrica festival, celebrating the cultural traditions of cameroon; the return of alvin ailey american dance theater with mixed programs of new works and repertory favorites; and and sing!, an exploration of the choral music by bass-baritone davone tines and the brooklyn youth chorus.
Fy24 bam education programs - bam education and bamkids annually engages students, teachers, families, and learners of all ages through a diverse range of initiatives known as the future artists at bam (fab) lab. Bam education also serves students from kindergarten to high school in over 225 schools throughout new york city, with an emphasis on title i schools in brooklyn. In fy24, bam education offered its full slate of programs. This include in-school residency programs word. Sound. Power. In the classroom and danceafrica in the classroom; tailored versions of in-school residencies for youth with disabilities; after-school devised theater and creative writing program arts & justice; after-school choreography program dance insider; and college and career preparation programs brooklyn interns for arts & culture and creative careers collective. Bam education and bamkids also offered school-time matinee and sensory-friendly performances for youth with disabilities of jacqueline woodson's the other side and show way the musical; school-time performances of bam's annual word. Sound. Power. And danceafrica festival; and the 26th annual bamkids film festival which showcased work by over 50 filmmakers including animation, live action, and documentary films from around the world.
