Advocacy carrie's touch is a long-standing and trusted voice in the community for nearly two decades for black women with breast cancer. We stand on the frontlines daily advocating for policies that make a real difference in our community. We continued our fight for legislation on the local, state and federal levels such as pharmacy benefit management (pbm) reform and the protecting patient access to cancer and complex therapies act ("protecting patients act"). The highlight of our advocacy this year was the launch of our "no longer silent" podcast which highlighted 12 patient stories from across the nation. These stories illuminate the complexities patients are experiencing in healthcare from lack of access to care misdiagnosis to lack of access to affordable drugs.
Survivor support & rapid response survivor support is a staple for us. We continue to celebrate breast cancer survivors in active treatment with-in person visits, to provide them with much needed love and encouragement. We also partner with licensed therapists and cancer coaches to provide mental and emotional support. In 2024, we hosted "pink pop-ups," community events featuring culturally curated activities focused on mental wellness. An extension of our survivor support is rapid response, a life saving program that addresses urgent needs. As housing concerns remain a national problem, this program provides support for housing and other basic needs that encourage women to not default on their cancer treatments.
