We believe that parents are powerful agents of change in the lives of their children and communities. They lead the way to positive outcomes for their children. Parents participate in local programs to strengthen their leadership, knowledge and support systems all key in preparing their young children for school success. The ten interactive sessions assist parents in building strong foundations for their children in reading, math, technology, health and more. Parents support each other in making what they learn a part of daily life, understanding they are in powerful positions as leaders and advocates for their families. We graduated 85 parents through the program.harwood initiativecentro hispano and the harwood institute believe deeply that local communities must shape and drive their own change. The two primary goals of this initiative are to generate a community-defined education agenda that will lead to the transformation of the local education system. We also are focused on strengthening the civic culture of reading so, together, we can take effective action to create positive, lasting change. Over 150 community members have completed the harwood orientation.
