Dance Service New York City Inc

Dance.nyc:dance/nyc's website, dance.nyc, which launched in 2014, is the "go to" site for dance promotional and management resources and positions the organization for leadership in knowledge-sharing. Dance.nyc offers a community calendar, listings boards, resources and promotional platforms for the dance community and includes its research and advocacy work for the public. The organization also sends out weekly and monthly e-newsletters and social media campaigns about ongoing news and opportunities of importance to the metropolitan new york city area dance community. Dance/nyc successfully launched a new mini-site - the dwr hub -(hub.dance.nyc), with a resource library for dance workers' professional development and self-advocacy and a digital home for the fifth state of nyc dance research report. The hub added a dance worker directory in 2024 and augments the digital reach of dance/nyc's website, dance.nyc, which continues to serve as a centralized platform for dance community engagement and professional development resources.

Research:dance/nyc is committed to effective case-building grounded in action-oriented research to guide strategic and responsive policy, funding development, and management practices in the metropolitan new york city area. Based on emergent priorities from the state of nyc dance 2023: findings from the dance industry census (released in december 2023), dance/nyc commissioned a comparative study of and report on wage and working standards to inform forthcoming field-wide frameworks and tools.

Advocacydance/nyc advocates on behalf of the dance sector by regularly representing its interests to the city, state, and federal government and to the philanthropic community. Using its research as a tool for change and rooted in its organizational values of justice, equity, and inclusion, dance/nyc drives policy, disseminates resources, provides self-advocacy tools, and informs investment and program development. Dance/nyc furthered its advocacy work via ongoing engagement in legislative and public representation of the dance workforce to the city, state, and federal governments as well as the regular dissemination of newsletters and tools for self-advocacy and civic education on its advocacy page(https://bit.ly/dancenyc_advocacy) and dwr hub (https://hub.dance.nyc/). The organization's efforts included the continuation of field-wide calls to help educate, deliver resources, instigate dialogue, and foster peer learning and collective action around timely initiatives, tools, and resources; in addition to its ongoing partnership with community members, peer organizations, and field leaders to best serve the changing needs of dance workers,artists, organizations, and businesses to ensure that dance thrives in the metropolitan nyc area.idea programin 2024, dance/nyc implemented the interdisciplinary disability education and access program - a 14-session initiative designed to educate non-disabled dance makers on disability culture and access, led by disabled artists and facilitators. The program expanded leadership and employment opportunities for disabled artists while equipping participants to create more inclusive and accessible practices within the dance field. Through these and other initiatives, dance/nyc strengthens the ecosystem for dance and ensures equitable access to resources, education, and artistic participation across new york city.
