Mission

The davis phinney foundation's mission is to help people live well with parkinson's. While it is critical to find a cure for parkinson's, we feel strongly that people living with parkinson's also need information and tools to live well today. The foundation was founded in 2004 by olympic cyclist davis phinney, who was diagnosed with parkinson's in 2000, at the age of 40. Today, davis is both a role model in the cycling community and an inspiration to the estimated 1 million americans living with parkinson's. We are committed to supporting programs and research that deliver inspiration, information and tools that will enable people living with parkinson's to take more control in managing their parkinson's. The foundation provides essential information, practical tools and inspiration to people living with parkinson's and funds research closely aligned with our mission - improving the lives of people living with parkinson's.

Programs

3 programs

The davis phinney foundation ambassadors share resources and information in their local communities to help people improve their quality of life with parkinson's. Our ambassadors engage with support groups, individuals, families, and healthcare professionals to provide education and encouragement. They also present at local events and offer one-on-one support to people living with parkinson's and their care partners.

Expenses: $622K

The healthy parkinson's communities initiative has supported community-based advocates through staff support, educational resources, print materials, mentorship, and grants for local projects. In 2024, the foundation began to phase down this program to focus on other strategic priorities.in 2024, the davis phinney foundation launched the updated pedaling for parkinson's program nationally, following its transition to foundation leadership in 2023. This indoor cycling program is designed to help people with parkinson's manage symptoms through exercise. Under the foundation's leadership, the program was enhanced with a new curriculum, training model, and community engagement strategy. The foundation also offers online pedaling for parkinson's classes for individuals who do not have a local program or who cannot physically attend in-person classes. Pedaling for parkinson's classes now serve as a consistent point of connection providing participants with proven exercise benefits and linking them to additional foundation resources, community support, and information about living well with parkinson's.

Expenses: $849K

The foundation also has serveral smaller programs including community partnerships.
