Durham Sports Commission

Owned events: 2023 marked the third annual champion durham classic, hosted at hillside high school. The tournament had six girls teams and three guys teams competing, with 776 spectators in attendance. In april 2024, the dsc also hosted the second annual emerging women in sports leadership summit, collaborating with women leaders in sports. Hosted at the durham convention center, the event had 169 registered attendees and 23 speakers with 28 educational institutions and 35 different organizations represented.

Grants: in 2023-2024, the dsc gave 28 grants and supported a total of 56 events. These include the russell blunt east coast invitational and the savannah bananas at durham bulls athletic park, which generated $2.7 million and $1.5 million in economic impact for durham respectively. In addition, the dsc gave out $4,000 in one team, one durham fund grants, providing opportunities to participate in youth sports to 20 individuals across four different organizations. V
