Programs
3 programs
2.healthy aging helpage usa launched a pilot of friendship bench dc which enables older people to address the mental health crisis in their community. Helpage usa provided extensive training in empathic listening and problem-solving therapy so they can support people of all ages who need a listening ear. Friendship benches will be set up at host partners in underserved areas so that mental health support is free, accessible, and culturally relevant to those who need it.
3.policy, education, and global network support: helpage usa supports helpage global network members and amplifies the voices of older people in low- and middle-income countries. We do this by building awareness among key us audiences of how older people are affected by humanitarian crises, a lack of income and age-appropriate health care, vulnerability to violence and abuse, and the need to ensure that older people have a voice in debates about policies that impact them.
