POLICY ADVOCACY: Our current five-year strategy, launched in 2023, focuses on ensuring that the global energy transition is both rapid and just. In 2024, we advanced this work by amplifying the voices of affected community voices in global policy conversation about a just energy transition, pushing for stronger human rights due diligence within the aluminium supply chain , and joining partners to campaign for an end to coal finance. . Key policy accomplishments in 2024 included the following: . -----We filed the first OECD complaint of its kind against the three biggest ESG ratings and index firms for failing to uphold their human rights responsibilities. Our End Coal Finance campaign exposed how a $600 million Asian Development Bank loan meant to promote clean energy in Indonesia helped bankroll coal plants across the archipelago. We also published research identifying the commercial banks most likely to finance a wave of new coal power projects planned across Asia. Sixteen banks responded by ruling out financing the pipeline coal projects we identified. . -----We launched a new initiative to document and amplify the perspectives of frontline communities on what a just approach to mining for transition means to them and elevate their voices in global policy and standard setting. Our pilot in Guinea will focus on the planned expansion of the CBG bauxite mine into farming communities and virgin forests north of the Cogon River. This project builds on our work supporting communities south of the river who have already been impacted by CBGs fifty-year old mining operation in their struggle for redress.
