Inter-American Dialogue

U.s. Policy: the dialogue's work (on u.s. Policy) includes a range of projects and events that focus on u.s. Policy toward latin america and the caribbean generally, and towards specific countries and issues. This includes the dialogue's programs on the andean region, brazil, mexico, cuba, and the nations of central america; on u.s.-latin american trade negotiations; on long-term global trends; and on the u.s. Participation in inter-american institutions.

Remittances and development: the dialogue studies remittance trends, financial access, and remittance transaction costs in migrant host and home countries in the western hemisphere and worldwide. Research and meetings also focus on how development policies affect migratory flows.

Asia and latin america: the dialogue engages and informs academics, policy-makers and private sector leaders on evolving themes in latin america's relations with asia. Our working group meetings, events and publications seek to address areas of critical interests and to identify shared priorities in latin american nations and their international partners.

Outreach and communications: all the dialogue programs communicate their analysis and recommendations to policy and media communities in the u.s. And latin america, and beyond through published reports and articles, public and private forums, press conferences, and briefings for policy officials. A centralized outreach function maintains ongoing communication with the dialogue's membership, the u.s. Congress, the media and other organizations involved in hemispheric issues.

Rule of law: the program was established in 2015 to honor peter d. Bell, a founding cochair of the dialogue's board of directors, with support of the ford foundation. The program aims to promote policy discussions around human rights, democratic institutions, government accountability, civil society engagement, and hemispheric cooperation.

Corporate programs: the dialogue's corporate program engages western hemisphere business and financial leaders in the dialogue's activities and captures the viewpoints of leading private sector executives in our events and publications. The corporate program provides information and analysis to member companies, and produces a series of newsletters on political and economic issues of interest to the corporate community.

Energy and climate change: frames policy debates on investment and sustainable development of natural resources by providing balanced analysis and by convening policymakers, corporate leaders and experts. The program seeks to improve information and communication to help policymakers attract investment while addressing environmental, social and economic concerns. It also promotes dialogue among countries to enhance energy integration and improve access to clean, secure energy supplies.

Linowitz forum: the linowitz forum periodically assembles the dialogue's core membership to review and discuss the most important issues in hemispheric affairs. Their findings and recommendations are published and communicated to decision-makers and opinion leaders throughout the hemisphere.
