Programs
3 programs
Iza serves as an information hub on zinc and its uses. Its communication process integrates activities and information to engage audiences, while achieving outcomes consistent with iza's mission, vision, and goals. Activities include curating iza conferences and workshops, managing websites and social media, creating newsletters, brochures and other publications supporting iza programs, and media and public relations.
In 2024, iza initiated the zinc enables decarbonization (zed) program which quantifies and substantiates the economic, environmental, and social benefits of using zinc. Zed builds on the return on investments from the carbon footprint pf production, recycling, and key downstream processes by quantifying how zinc-in-use extends the life of the built environment.
The galvanized automotive steel program (gap) was established to retain and grow the market for galvanized steel sheet on automotive bodies by technical innovation and market development. It has attracted significant support from the global steel industry, automakers, and steel industry suppliers who sponsor 95% of the gap budget. It is run in a series of 3-year terms, with 12 research projects in each term. It is estimated that the zinc market for automotive steels is over 700,000 tpy and that there is potential for an additional 50,000 tpy growth in developing countries. For example, there are opportunities in china and india to increase the percentage of galvanized steel used close to levels seen in north america or europe.
