Literacy connexus, founded in 2004, empowers community and faith-based organizations to promote literacy through four core programs: teaching english connexus (tecs), l.e.a.r.n. For life, ready for school, and whats for lunch? These programs support english language instruction, adult literacy, school readiness, and access to books for children during summer months.

Whats for lunch? Reduces summer learning loss and promotes early literacy by distributing books through food access points such as summer meal sites and food pantries. In 2024, the program expanded across central texas under new leadership, distributing over 2,600 books through events and partnerships with schools, libraries, and housing authorities. Highlights included a book drive, new literacy events, and establishing permanent reading nooks in public housing communities.

Ready for school is a family literacy program serving refugee families in fort worth, equipping preschoolers and their parents for success in u.s. Classrooms. In 2024, the program served 20 families at monarch pass apartments using a 20-week curriculum based on classic childrens books to build early literacy, motor, and social skills. Parents and children participate together, with families receiving book bags to encourage reading at home. The curriculum is freely available online to support replication by churches and volunteers.

Learn for life is a partnership between literacy connexus and the tarrant literacy coalition that provides one-on-one adult literacy tutoring at goodwill centers, online, and in libraries in fort worth. In 2024, trained volunteers delivered 363 hours of instruction to 15 adults working toward goals such as earning a ged, improving reading skills, or navigating daily literacy tasks. The program offers personalized support to both native and non-native english speakers and connects learners with additional educational resources through local partnerships.
