The mission of the Memorial Park Conservancy (MPC) is to restore, preserve and enhance Memorial Park for the enjoyment of all Houstonians, today and tomorrow.

Welcoming and Engaging Park Visitors: Memorial Park Conservancy regularly provides a diverse range of free and low-cost community events, spanning from cultural festivals to engaging educational activities. By prioritizing inclusivity and promoting environmental consciousness, the Park demonstrates its commitment to enriching visitors' lives while fostering a vibrant and sustainable community atmosphere.Continued on Schedule O.FY24 Highlights include:- Commemorated Memorial Park's Centennial Year with the 'Biggest Picnic in Texas: 100th Birthday Edition,' which attracted over 4,000 attendees despite the chilly weather. The event featured live music, entertainment, face painting, children's activities, and 5,000 complimentary cupcakes provided by H-E-B.- Organized the grand opening event for the Memorial Park Running Complex, welcoming more than 3,000 visitors from across Houston.- Conducted the Camp Logan 'Park Conversations' installation in collaboration with the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum, Commissioner Lesley Briones, Council Member Abbie Kamin, Commissioner Rodney Ellis, Mayor Sylvester Turner, the NAACP, South Texas College of Law Houston, and the Houston Parks and Recreation Department.- Celebrated cultural events such as Diwali and Lunar New Year.- Invited Houstonians to Clay Family Eastern Glades on Memorial Day to pay tribute to the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives in service to their country.

Operating and Maintaining the Park: The Conservancy operates and maintains 1,100 acres of Memorial Park's 1,500 acres, aspiring to implement the principles of exceptional park management and stewardship. The Conservancy furthers its mission by enhancing park amenities, backing forestry management initiatives, planting native tree species, maintaining both natural and paved trails, and tending to landscaped areas within the Park.Continued on Schedule O.FY24 Highlights include:- Installed outdoor security cameras to enhance safety for Park users.- Assisted in the resurfacing of Picnic Loop.- Planted over 150 trees and 4,000 grass and flowering plants across various park areas, including the Kinder Land Bridge, Cyvia & Melvyn Wolff Prairie, Picnic Loop, and Clay Family Eastern Glades.- Introduced 19,000 square feet of garden beds in the newly opened Running Complex.At Memorial Park Conservancy, volunteers play a crucial role in the restoration and maintenance of the Park.FY24 Volunteer Highlights include:- Volunteers dedicated a total of 3,606 hours, engaging in diverse projects throughout the Park.- Conservancy staff organized 90 corporate events and 177 group events, collaborating with schools, alumni associations, and clubs.- Volunteers assisted in removing 250 cubic yards of biomass and spreading 124 cubic yards of mulch.- These contributions supported the re-potting of 15,000 plants, the removal of dead pines equivalent to 120 cubic yards of wood chips, and the relocation of 11,200 plants in the lathouse.
