Conference: The NHC held its annual 2-day Health Leadership Conference in Scottsdale, AZ, bringing together over 150 CEO, senior staff, and Board volunteer attendees from NHC member organizations. The NHC hosted its 7th Annual Science of Patient Engagement Symposium at the National Press Club in Washington, DC, gathering research leaders from all membership categories and various representatives and experts from the health care field. More than 150 scientists and patient advocates focused on the patients experience throughout their lifespan from the lens of pediatric, young adult, adult, and aging populations. The NHC hosted its 2nd Washington Representative Summer Meeting in July, bringing together over 100 policy and government relations professionals to discuss health care legislative priorities. The Summer Meeting was followed by the Annual Washington Representative Retreat held in Annapolis, MD in November, bringing over 100 policy and government relations professionals from NHC members together to hear from policy and regulatory experts, share organizational challenges and successes, network with peers, and set policy priorities for the coming year. The NHC concluded the year with its Annual Membership Meeting and Luncheon, attended by more than 160 representatives from NHC member organizations, marking a celebration of 2024 accomplishments.
Member Services: The NHC provided information and support to members through policy and advocacy initiatives, legislative/regulatory activities, engaging with health agencies, amplifying patient voices, and technical support through various projects. In 2024, the NHC implemented a new member benefit, NHC Connect, an online, members-only platform, providing critical spaces for our members to discuss issues, share best practices, and collaborate on new projects and initiatives. In response to rapid progress in the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, the NHC has created several avenues for guiding AIs use in health care, developed a set of principles on Health AI, elevated the patient voice in discussions of AI policy, and more. The NHC promoted and advanced our Health Equity initiative by conducting listening sessions, translating the Patient Experience Mapping Toolbox (PEMT) into Spanish, and hosting Health Equity Affinity Group meetings and quarterly lunch and learns to share work from NHC partner organizations. Expanded the NHCs reach through social media, publications, and targeted campaigns such as the Trusted Messenger campaign, focused on educating Medicare Part D beneficiaries about new benefits designed to cap out-of-pocket medication costs and spread the costs of medications throughout the calendar year and by launching a new Instagram social media platform. Provided technical support through member projects, including Patient Organization (PO) Standards of Excellence Certification program, Washington Representatives Retreat, and new Summer Meeting, Affinity Group educational webinars and meetings, Annual Revenue and Compensation Surveys, and monthly policy action teams. In addition, the NHC staff participated in panels, task forces, advisory committees, and presentations in collaboration with governmental, business/industry, and other health care sector organizations.
