Expanding access through public investments:in fy2024, nyic helped ensure that public resources and programs intended to support immigrants were effectively implemented and accessible to communities across new york. This work included providing community-informed insights, needs assessments, and technical support to government stakeholders and agency partners.key developments that expanded access to services included:- a $64.2 million investment in the care for immigrant families (care4if/ara) program, increasing the availability of legal services for immigrant new yorkers- an additional $2 million for the office of language access to strengthen multilingual access across public agencies- a $350 million one-time supplemental empire state child credit that provided meaningful support to families with children, including many immigrant households- a $2.4 billion commitment from new york city to provide shelter, legal assistance, case management, and other essential services to asylum seekers, along with an additional $122 million to support expanded services at floyd bennett field- $26 million in funding through the office of temporary and disability assistance (otda) to support migrant and refugee resettlement services across the state
Supporting nyic member organizations:the nyic is a diverse statewide coalition of over 200 nonprofit organizations, including grassroots service providers, legal organizations, faith institutions, worker centers, and academic and civic partners. These organizations serve as a vital foundation for immigrant support across new york.in fy2024, nyic provided its members with regrants, training, technical assistance, leadership development opportunities, and shared learning spaces. Member organizations collectively served nearly one million immigrant new yorkers through a wide range of services, including legal assistance, food access, healthcare navigation, and more. Additionally, nyic placed 30 full-time americorps vistas at partner organizations through the nyic vista program, supporting year-long service projects focused on expanding local capacity.
