Mission
Support the research and development of new work in dance by bringing professional choreographers together for in-depth exploration of new ideas and concepts in the areas of dance making, research, discussion, education, administration, and publications.

Nccakron also supported more than 100 dance artists through residencies, laboratories, research initiatives, and public programs, advancing its vision that all roads dance through akron, oh. Our work connected summit county residents with artists from across the u.s. Through showings, workshops, classes, and conversations, while providing artists with time, space, and resources to experiment. Through ideas in motion, university of akron students and the public engaged directly with national artists via the community commissioning residency, 21st century dance practices, and inside the dancers studio series. Dancing labs explored new themes and practices, including media arts, cypher, and intergenerational partners, with dynamic cohorts of artists across generations and geographies. Creative/technical residencies supported individual choreographers process-based research.
Finally, nccakron continued to administer the annual knight choreography prize, a $50,000 award honoring a choreographer distinguished for artistry, originality, and impact. Across all programs, nccakron served as an intellectual matchmaker between national choreographers and the akron community, dismantling the notion that meaningful dance creation only happens in large cities and reaffirming akrons national relevance in the dance field.
