The professional development and training (pdt) programme fosters individual and institutional research capacity and the utilisation of research. The pdt programme supports the research and higher education programmes by providing a range of capacity building activities designed for different audiences. The initiative has developed a multi-method research course (mmrc) which is a high-level professional development course that targets two main constituencies, both seeking to broaden their understanding of a range of conceptual andmethodological approaches to their research and teaching work. Pdt works with partners to: design and deliver high quality, experiential professional development that builds policy actors and researchers'skills and competencies; deepen delivery partners' institutional. The dpp scholarships are managed under the pdt programme.
The higher education program works with african universities to strengthen the provision of graduate-level education by enriching the teaching and practice of social science research for public policy in africa. In 2024, pasgr continued to work with its partner universities to deliver the collaborative master of research and public policy (mrpp) and the collaborative doctor of philosophy (phd) in public policy. Despite the pandemic, the doctoral program has so far enrolled 104 students in the three african pioneer universities thus meeting the need for quality doctoral programmes in social sciences and humanities in africa.
