Public service leadership. Many political and career leaders in government are not equipped to understand and engage a diverse public and guide agencies in fulfilling their potential to address increasingly complex problems facing our nation. The partnership views leadership as the most crucial factor influencing government performance and effectiveness. By developing the skills and abilities of government leaders at all levels, including career civil servants as well as political appointees, and providing forums for them to discuss shared challenges and solutions, the partnership helps leaders become agents of change within their own agencies and across government. Our approach to developing leaders is grounded in our public service leadership model, which outlines core values government leaders must embody-stewardship of public trust and commitment to the public good- and outlines the competencies they need in a modern government and at each stage of their leadership careers.
Government talent. Government has an aging workforce, and it is struggling to attract skilled, diverse talent, particularly among early career workers, that it needs serve the public now and in the future. By sharpening our focus on helping agencies recruit, hire and retain young talent, the partnership works to support government in not only replacing employees nearing the end of their careers but also bringing new skills and perspectives that will help the country rise to the significant challenges of the day and prepare for what lies ahead. In addition, top-performing organizations have highly engaged employees who are connected to their missions and customers. The partnership's best places to work in the federal government rankings, based on an annual federal survey, serves as a valuable tool to evaluate employee engagement and pinpoint areas in need of improvement.
Trust in government. Many members of the public do not believe in our government to listen to them or act in transparent, accountable ways. Sustained stewardship of our institutions is not possible without a receptive and engaged public that understands the role government plays in their lives. The partnership focuses on promoting the achievements and stories of public servants across government via the service to america medals and broader capacity-building efforts for government to more capably communicate with, deliver for and engage the public. We also regularly assess public views of government performance, transparency and accountability and generate thought leadership to support government trust and trustworthiness.
