Youth Enrichment Services (YES) & Community Outreach: Youth Skills ROCKs youth skills groups are offered once a week for 6 weeks over the summer. Ages 6-18 are welcome. The skills taught varied from sewing, cooking, and gardening, to survival skills. In 2024, ROCK had a total of 38 youth attend, with an average of 32 kids attending weekly. Youth Art Classes Art classes are offered once a week for 6 weeks over the summer for ages 6-18. The classes explore different topics, mediums, painted abstract and a color wheel, while stepping outside the box and paint with their own thougths. ROCK served a total of 38 youth with approximately 30 youth attending per week over the 6 weeks. Youth Music Lessons ROCK is offering professional 1:1 guitar lessons in the ROCK building every week. Over the year, an average of 13 youth taking lessons each month. Duplicated numbers include serving 68 youth over the course of 2024. Elementary Book Vending Machine ROCK teamed with Atmos Energy for a book vending machine in the Dolores County Elementary School. Over the fall of 2024 121 books were distributed to children. Students earned these books in a variety of ways such as good behavior, and consideration for other. 3rd Annual Scholarship Award (value $1000.00)ROCK will be offering its 3rd scholarship in the spring of 2025 to any graduating senior in Dolores County, which also includes homeschool seniors. The winner will be announced at the high school graduation. This scholarship supports trade school or a college, paid directly to the school itself.
Reaching Out to Community and Kids (ROCK) Yearly EVENTS: 12th Annual Easter Egg Dash The Easter Egg Dash served 41 families with 107 children and 94 adults. All children dashing for over 2000 eggs filled eggs. Chocolate bunnies, baskets, carnival games, face painting, and a community pancake breakfast served to all.10th Annual School Supply Distribution In 2024, ROCK distributed supplies to Dolores County and Egnar, CO. ROCK distributed to youth ages Pre-K through seniors in high school aged pre-K through high school. A total of 249 students received needed supplies for their ages. All of the younger youth received personalized backpacks during the distribution. ROCK teamed up with Atmos Energy for a community BBQ to kick off the new school year. 12th Halloween Spooktacular Carnival (Trunk or Treat) ROCKs 2024 Spooktacular Carnival took place as a Trunk-or-treat carnival again this year. Over 10 vehicles, many booths including the local Ambulance, Sheriff, and Search and Rescue created carnival games with their vehicles and parking spaces for our youth. The senior class also created a kid-friendly haunted house. ROCK served 81 youth and children, and 35 families. Chili Dog meal provided to all. ROCK the Holidays One of ROCKs largest events is bringing Santa Claus to town. It is a large community appreciation celebration that has a free chili dinner, s'mores, and hot chocolate. Youth get to see Santa and he hands out candy canes and little gifts. Santa replies to all the letters that are given to him. The youth also receive free beanies and gloves. Everyone who attends gets to enjoy the Christmas lights and singing Christmas carols. This year 156 children saw Santa and 65 families attended the event. 16th Annual Angel Tree Program The Angel Tree Program reaches out to families who need help putting gifts under the tree for their children. In 2024, volunteers coordinated, wrapped, and distributed gifts to 59 low-income children and their families. Each Angel received filled stockings and donated gifts from those in our community and also, each family received a food box that included a turkey and all the makings for a holiday dinner. One hundred and eighteen volunteers donated gifts and time for this program. 8th Annual Golden Angel Distribution In 2024, ROCK and ROCK volunteers delivered to a 125 senior citizens, and 27 households had 2 seniors. They also received a hot homemade turkey dinner with all the sides and fixings including a full turkey breast and pumpkin pie. The seniors also received gifts of warm socks, gloves, lotions, and treats. About 40 volunteers came together for this event to shop, cook, package, and deliver the items.
