BRAIN INJURY RESEARCH: This project seeks to study a reentry program, Reentry Continuum for Brain Injury (RCBI), to address the needs of offenders with traumatic brain injury (TBI). RCBI is a multi-faceted program that evolved from three different reentry treatment programs for offenders with TBI. RCBI consists of a cognitive-behavioral therapy for TBI patients, an education and resource facilitation component, and a therapy specifically designed to address the anger and aggression issues that are often prevalent among offenders who have experienced TBI. To study RCBI, the research team will identify approximately 102 offenders with TBI, six months before release from Putnamville Correctional Facility (PCF). These offenders will be randomized into RCBI or regular reentry services. Intervention outcomes will be assessed using Indiana DOC administrative data on rearrests and technical violations at one-, two-, and three-year intervals. Participants will also be assessed based on reentry outcomes, such as employment, as well as aggressive thoughts.
GENERAL SUPPORT FOR THE REHABILITATION HOSPITAL OF INDIANA: There are always patient needs that do not align with research or the adaptive sports program. The RHI Foundation provides patient financial assistance, staff training and education, equipment, and robotics programs to enhance the quality of life and patient experience, as well as address other needs that align with RHI's mission and can be supported through philanthropy.
