Truman Center For National Policy

Research and education: tcnp engages in public education, conferences and roundtable discussions, speaking events, media, and related programming to affect policies seen as essential to our country's national security. These advocacy activities are nonpartisan, and take place across the united states. Issues are chosen for their salience to america's security in the 21st century - from the importance of american leadership globally, to involving subnational leaders in national security, and other policy choices that affect whether america can remain a strong country whose policies are based in our founding values. Issues may involve working with a number of other organizations who share our policy views, and may be engaged in under a project title such as "operation free" that denotes activities across a group of organizations.

General programs: identification and training of leaders across america to deliver concrete solutions to pressing global challenges and need for policy changes.

Immigration: the current national conversation around immigration demands new voices and new ideas. Truman is undertaking a series of timely projects focused on how to address challenges at the us-mexico border and how subnational leaders can have their voices heard on immigration issues.

4d nuclear non-proliferation: the conversation around nuclear nonproliferation has frequently been a washington insider's game. Truman is working with partners across the country to expand conversations about nuclear security and the impact of nuclear policy on a range of communities.

Crisis prepardness initiative: this initiative is to improve and systematize rapid public-private coordnation during times of crisis by developing a crisis response playbook and utilizing it to convene and coordinate between the us government and the private setor during crises as necessary. This will allow quicker, more nimble and effective response to futrue crises, resulting in saved lives, money and resources.

Training

Elevating new voices: america is at its best when it makes it a point to be representative and leverage the skills of our entire nation. Truman mobilizes new voices from many backgrounds to engage on a wide range of national security issues, including on subnational diplomacy and the utility that cities and states bring to the national security conversation.
