Mission
We cultivate educational, economic, cultural, social, and physical and mental health resources in partnership with newcomers (refugees, immigrants, asylum-seekers, and others who are new to the united states) to empower them to achieve system change that supports their well-being and integration in their new communities. We do this by promoting mutual learning to help newcomers and others living in america understand each other and develop and support effective and just policies, collaborating with other organizations, government agencies, and individuals to achieve our vision, developing, implementing, adapting, evaluating, and disseminating programs that benefit newcomers, including the refugee well- being project (an innovative model for connecting newcomers with people and resources in the united states to promote mutual learning and improve mental health), and building capacity and leadership skills of newcomers.
Programs

Refugee and immigrant wellbeing project: 15 adults and 41 children, and 21 unm student advocates finished the program in may 2024. In fall 2024 similar numbers of adults, children and students were recruited for the 2024-2025 cohort.
Newcomer mentoring staff provided over 1,200 hours of case management linking newcomers to over 924 services, including more than 267 hours devoted to housing needs and over 150 hours for legal and immigration referrals.
Youth empowerment: 36 youth graduated from cohort 1 of the youth empowerment program, each receiving a 500 stipend in may 2024 to go towards books, school clothes or other needs. 18 new youth were recruited for cohort 2 that started august 2024. Interpretation and translation: entered a formal contract to provide santa fe public schools with interpretation and translation services. Expanded our services with st. Joseph home visiting, and uvnr signed a contract with unmh to be the first and only in-person interpretation service providers for newcomers seeking services in the state's largest public hospital and level 1 trauma center.
