Agency allocations:united way of tarrant county financially supports numerous efforts targeting and addressing the four focus areas of need outlined in our latest community assessment. Through monitoring and careful examination of program outcomes, united way of tarrant county determines the specific level of funding for each of these programs, based on total funds available through our annual workplace campaign. Total number of grantees: 67
Economic recovery: the health and well-being of our community is a top priority at united way of tarrant county. The volunteer income tax assistance (vita) program filed 3,809 tax returns that resulted in over $3,243,161 million in refunds. Vita clients set up over $85,710 in first-time savings accounts. United way of tarrant county was awarded a $350,000 grant in spring 2023 from the federal communications commission to conduct outreach for and help enroll eligible families in the affordable connectivity program (acp), a benefit program that helps ensure that qualifying low-income households can afford the broadband they need for work, school, healthcare and more. Four united way of tarrant county initiatives directly addressing areas of community need related to pandemic recovery received nearly $10 million in federal funding from the tarrant county commissioners court and city of fort worth in september. These funds will support four initiatives focused on addressing increasing teen gun violence, improving maternal and infant health, reducing economic disparities in 76104 and helping isolated older adults.
Equity
Mission united:mission united, a military and veterans' outreach and services initiative of united way of tarrant county, helps veterans, active-duty military members, and their families in north texas find community resources and gain access to a variety of services. The veterans fund is dedicated to supporting military service members who are returning to civilian life in the tarrant county area, including counseling, career and financial coaching, addiction treatment, and other high-priority needs, providing more than $300,000 in grants. The texas veterans network provides coordinated access to services, resources, and programming for thousands of active-duty military, veterans and their families each year. For those age 60 and older or with a disability, a dedicated veterans specialist at the area agency on aging and the aging and disability resource center provides case management, home visit support, and outreach to qualifying veterans, their families, and spouses.
Service centers:three outlying service centers are leased from the city of arlington under operating leases. The facilities are subleased to various benefit and service organizations and government agencies.
