Mission

The organization's purpose is to promote the highest standards of excellence in the theater and the performing arts, primarily through the production and performance of plays and musicals for the general public, as well as various developmental and educational activities.

Programs

2 programs

Marketing, education & outreachthe theater's education program (open stages) works with middle and high school students attending new york city public schools and their teachers. Its work consists of professional development sessions for teachers and workshops for students led by teaching artists.open stages includes five components. Its high school program is connected with the theater's productions, for which free tickets and workshops are provided to students and teachers. Through actor-oriented in-school workshops, the shakespeare program makes shakespeare's plays feel relevant and accessible to students. The learning english and drama project (lead) works with multilingual learners and supports them in becoming more confident english speakers. The songwriting in the schools program, brings young professional lyricists and composers into classrooms for residencies in which students learn how to write lyrics from a character's point of view and collaborate with the teaching artists to set their words to music. Community programs work with students across the city, including an annual performance project at a high school campus adjacent to lincoln center.all education program components reach a total of approximately 4,700 students and 100 teachers each year.the theater's membership program is an audience development program servicing approximately 23,000 lincoln center theater members, each of whom, after payment of an annual fee, is entitled to purchase one ticket to each of the theater's productions at a substantial discount (subject in some circumstances to availability) and to receive special information and service in the ordering of tickets. Over 45,000 younger members, under the linctix program, are entitled to membership benefits and discounts without the payment of an annual fee.

Expenses: $2.2M

Special artistic projects.special artistic projects include developmental workshops and readings of new plays and musicals (the play development program), commissions for new plays and operas, and the publication of the lincoln center theater review, a journal of the drama. Grants and awards within this program service are the cullman award for creative achievement.
