Program 1
In pursuit of its work, the trcp has earned a strong reputation for providing nonpartisan education and advocacy at both the federal and state level to strengthen broad-based conservation efforts, protecting wildlife and fish habitat, and ensuring public access to the nation's lands and waters. The trcp has four policy centers: public lands, private lands, marine fisheries, and water resources. Priorities for each policy center are as follows: public lands: to conserve public lands, the trcp supports management that balances development with fish and wildlife needs including through the identification and conservation of migration corridors and implementation of ecosystem conservation plans, integrating the backcountry conservation management approach into management plan revisions, defending public lands from sale or transfer, and improving access by modernizing agency data and opening landlocked public lands. Private lands: to support conservation of privately-owned agriculture or forest lands, the trcp advocates for an expanded conservation title in the farm bill, strong implementation of working lands conservation programs, and federal funding and action to curb the spread of chronic wasting disease. Marine fisheries: to protect saltwater fisheries, the trcp advocates for modernizing fisheries management approaches regionally and at the federal level, restoring coastal and estuarine ecosystems, and promoting ecological management of forage fish. Water resources: to conserve healthy waterways and habitat, the trcp defends and maintains federal protections for streams and wetlands that promote drought resiliency and advance natural infrastructure solutions.
