Mission
Build the parent and community demand for world-class public schools, and to accelerate the growth of these schools, particularly for low-income students, students of colors, and students with special needs.
Programs
3 programs
Community organizing - parents have a unique and critical role in improving public schools. Innovate public schools supports parents across the nation to build organizations in their communities that can successfully advocate for better schools and hold the system accountable to the needs of their children. The organization also trains and develops professional community organizers and parent volunteer leaders from across the country through the community organizer training program and national parent leader institute.
Consulting, training and national expansion - the organization works to accelerate the growth of high-quality public schools for underserved children. The organization's major school support efforts are the world- class schools fellowship program. The organization launched the fellowship in fall 2013. This is the organization's flagship program to prepare school leadership teams from both district and nonprofit public charter schools to launch excellent new public schools. The fellowship provides a holistic set of supports tailored to the needs of each organization. In fiscal year 22- 23, the schools program has been sunsetting.
Lobbying - the lobbying efforts at the state level have been primarily on the california state budget and the allocation of increased monetary investments in the state budget toward education related activities, particularly as it relates to covid-19 relief efforts, learning loss recovery and high-quality tutoring. None of this funding will go directly to innovate public schools. Statewide - innovate organizes thousands of parents throughout california. In 2022, 14 parent leaders were nominated to serve on innovate's ca statewide parent leader board. The ca statewide parent leader board is a body of volunteer parent leaders representing thousands of black and latino parents, parents of students with learning differences, and parents of english learners. Parent leaders live and work in los angeles, san francisco, san jose, redwood city, and east palo alto. Canvassing - canvassing is the initial point of contact to get them to know innovate and the work that we do, "prospecting".
