Programs

7 programs

Asia:in asia, internews collaborates with journalists and media outlets to diversify information. We partner with local organizations to improve reporting on corruption, environmental issues, and democratic and peace processes. Our initiatives provide journalists with tools to strengthen sustainable independent media. Additionally, we train journalists to increase digital security awareness and promote investigative journalism and free speech.

Expenses: $13.1MGrants: $4.4M

Other projects:internews has a portfolio of projects that support communities outside of internews traditional geographic view. These programs can serve communities both globally and can support communities that are located domestically in the united states as well. Our listening post collective supports domestic communities and promotes access to trustworthy, relevant information. Other programs serve to support independent and small media outlets by promoting business viability and sustainability and provide useful toolkits to help drive many different facets of business.

Expenses: $11.7MGrants: $18K

Middle east and north africa:in mena, internews supports journalists, media outlets, and civil society in enhancing data journalism and supporting female journalists. We build journalists' capacity to report on sexual and gender-based violence and provide digital security support and mentoring for journalists and human rights activists.

Expenses: $11.4MGrants: $3.8M

Global programs:internews operates in four key areas globally to support partners in demanding, building, and protecting a safe, accessible, and open internet for all. We support the development and local adaptation of open-source software, global digital safety processes and standards, and local advocacy initiatives around online freedom of expression. Our global technology team works to improve access to mobile and internet technologies, particularly in information-hostile environments.

Expenses: $11.3MGrants: $4.8M

Americas:in the americas, internews trains local journalists and civil society on digital security best practices to mitigate security risks. We also support organizations and individuals advocating for legal and regulatory changes to reduce hiv-related stigma. Our efforts extend to providing information to the region's vulnerable populations, including indigenous communities, at-risk youth, and migrants.

Expenses: $7.8MGrants: $1.8M

Africa:internews empowers journalists and media outlets in sub-saharan africa to provide vital information about health, humanitarian aid, and government processes. By connecting journalists, advocates, and stakeholders, we enhance hiv prevention knowledge. We also work with refugee and idp communities to improve their communication and engagement with humanitarian service providers. In conflict-ridden countries like the democratic republic of congo (drc), we train journalists and support media to facilitate citizen access to electoral information. Additionally, we collaborate with local radio broadcasters and other media outlets to provide displaced communities with relevant local information.

Expenses: $6.8MGrants: $1.8M

Technical leadership:internews supports humanitarian crisis communication, environmental journalism, and health journalism globally. We recognize the critical role of media in communicating health information that can save lives. Our health journalism network connects journalists with media professionals, provides training, and grants access to various resources.
