Ninth Grade Counts focuses on helping students uncover their own potential, supports them in their academic and socio-cultural journey toward high school graduation, and encourages them to pursue post-secondary education. Ninth Grade Counts provides students with leadership development skills, a stronger sense of connection to their academic and cultural community and enhances student self-perception of confidence and adversity. Latino Network will enroll 20 Latinx students at our East County cohort with a focus on academic priority students, many who are at risk of gun violence in their neighborhood. Recruitment will focus on existing Latino Network after-school programs at feeder middle schools, recommendations from counselors and partner agencies, and word of mouth. Students will attend four days a week of full-day academic and pro-social programming for four weeks, and receive .5 credit through their high school for completing the full session.
