To promote the global science and engineering professions concerned with minerals, metals, and materials. Included among the organization's activities are: providing forums and other opportunities to exchange and disseminate information pertinent to the minerals, metals, and materials community, the promotion of technology transfer in industry, providing professional development and career maintenance to members, participation in the development of students for entry into the minerals, metals, andmaterials professions, and the representation of the related professions in the accreditation of education programs.
